Dr. Malek Smadi received his B.S., and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1988 and 1991 respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 2001. In 1991 Dr. Smadi worked as Geotechnical Engineer for ZAS Engineering on foundation engineering and underground construction. In 2000 he joined the Geotechnical and Underground Engineering group at ATC Associates in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dr. Malek Smadi's research interests include foundation engineering, construction problems, numerical techniques, granular soils subjected to earthquakes, ground modification technology, and underground construction.
Dr. Malek Smadi is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, The National society of Professional Engineers, Geo-Institute of A.S.C.E., and the Construction Specifications Institute. He is the recipient of the 1998 Ralph B. Peck Fellow for Outstanding Achievement in Geotechnical Engineering at UIUC.
